Underground Fiber Optic Installation

Fiber optic cable placed through new and existing conduit, built to the construction print and documented for clean handover.

HANDHOLE AHANDHOLE BFIBER IN CONDUITSLACK

01Overview

Underground fiber optic cable placement

Once the conduit is in the ground, the network still has to be placed through it. ZMB Utilities crews place fiber optic cable underground through conduit between handholes and vaults, working from the construction print and coordinating with the owner or general contractor segment by segment.

This is outside-plant construction: cable placed along the route in new or existing conduit, with slack and labeling as the design specifies. Every segment is recorded as it is built, so the as-built matches what is actually in the ground.

What's included

  • Cable placement through new conduit
  • Placement through existing conduit after condition checks
  • Coordination with handhole and vault locations
  • Slack and labeling as the design specifies
  • Field records for the as-built

02Process

How the work gets done.

01

Review

Walk the print and confirm the route, access points and cable specification.

02

Prove the path

Confirm the conduit is continuous and clear before placement begins.

03

Place

Place the cable between access points, managing tension and slack as specified.

04

Record

Document what was placed, where, and any field changes for the as-built.

03Good fit

When to use it

  • New fiber builds following conduit placement
  • Overbuilds in existing conduit with capacity
  • Phased routes that need segment-by-segment coordination

05Questions

Frequently asked

Can cable go into existing conduit?

Yes, when the conduit's condition and capacity allow. Existing conduit is checked before placement begins.

Who coordinates with the owner?

ZMB works from the owner's or general contractor's print and coordinates segment schedules and field changes with their team.

Planning an underground or fiber project?

Send the prints and the scope. We will review them and come back with a quote.
